Assam: Two Minor Girls Drown In Brahmaputra River In South Salmara District

As they entered the river all of them drowned, however, locals rescued three boys while the missing girls are yet to be traced.

Guwahati: In an unfortunate incident, two minor girls drowned in the Brahmaputra river, in Assam's South Salmara Mankachar district on Saturday.

As per reports, the incident took place in South Salmara's Solia village, when three boys and two girls went to the Brahmaputra river for bathing.

As they entered the river all of them drowned, however, locals rescued three boys while the missing girls are yet to be traced.

According to a report by ANI, presently the rescue and search operation is going on and the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) with the help of locals has engaged themselves in searching for the missing girls.

In May this year, a 10-year-old girl drowned after a passenger ferry capsized in Assam's Morigaon.

According to reports, the girl named Nisat Begum was returning from school on the boat when it turned turtle near Kaurhagi village.

However, locals successfully managed to rescue others but Nisat went missing.

Reportedly, her father identified as Habibur Rahman was also present on the boat when the mishap took place.

Most of the passengers on the boat were students of Kaurhagi primary school, who commute by these boats every day.

Recently, on May 9, 2022, two teenagers drowned in the Towkak river at the Bhawanipur area near Sonari town in Charaideo district.

Reportedly, Sanjay Sarkar and Rajat Das, along with four others, went to the Towkak river for bathing where their feet slipped and both the teenagers drowned in the river.

Sanjay Sarkar was a student of Haji Osimuddin Mission School, Sonari, and Rajat Das studies at Bhagawati Prasad Baruah Memorial HS School, Sonari.
