Assam: Two Robberies in Digboi in a Single Night

Valuables worth over Rs 20 lakhs were stolen by the robbers during the two incidents.

DIGBOI: The number of antisocial activities including theft and robbery is on the rise across the state and Digboi is no exception. Two robberies were reported on the night of Friday in the town of Digboi.

The first incident took place at the residence of Dhrubajyoti Baruah located in Number 2 Borbeel in Digboi. The robbers made way with over Rs 2 lakhs worth of gold and cash from their house. The second incident took place at the residence of Abidul Ismail Bora located in the N S Area locality. The robbers of this incident stole around Rs 17 lakh worth of gold, Rs 75000 in cash and several utensils made of brass and bell metal.

The local police have registered cases regarding the incident and started their investigations. And they have questioned Zakir Hussain and his wife, both belonging to the N S Area locality with regard to the second incident.

A few days back, an incident of robbery took place at the residence of former Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly late Devesh Chakrabarty and current Assam Pradesh Congress member, Maya Chakrabarty in Lumding of Assam. According to the sources, the incident took place at the Lanka Road locality of Lumding in the presence of people in the house. A gang of three to four robbers broke into the house with sharp weapons and they took away several gold ornaments from Maya Chakrabarty’s residence, including her necklace, bangle and rings on her hand. She was also gagged so that she could not shout during the incident.

The government-licensed gun of the former Assam Assembly Speaker was also been taken away by the robbers. In this Incident, Maya Chakrabarty also received superficial injuries. The Lumding police arrived at the scene after the incident and the investigation has been started in this regard.
