Assam: Two tiger poachers apprehended from Itakhola area

A forest investigation team managed to apprehend two tiger poachers from the Itakhola area with support from the villagers and Sejusa-based NGO on Wednesday evening.

JAMUGURIHAT: A forest investigation team managed to apprehend two tiger poachers from the Itakhola area with support from the villagers and Sejusa-based NGO on Wednesday evening. The apprehended poachers were identified as Berag Daimary and Ghan Basumatary, residents of Maibongpur, Balijuri and Aksiguri under Itakhola outpost respectively.

A Bengal tiger was translocated to Nameri National Park from Umananda which was killed months back and the skin and bones were taken away by the poachers. Since then, the poachers were untraceable. Based on secret information, a team of foresters conducted a search operation in a Bolero and recovered skin of the tiger, bones and a hand-made rifle from the possession of the poachers. Police investigation is on.
