GUWAHATI: Two tragic incidents occurred in Assam on Monday afternoon, resulting in the drowning of two young individuals. The first incident took place in Boko, under the Kamrup district, where a young man named Manoj Rabha accidentally drowned in the Chirang River while fishing. According to sources, the youth was swept away by strong water currents caused by incessant rains in the region. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) promptly arrived at the scene upon receiving the information and initiated rescue operations to locate the missing youth. Efforts are currently underway to trace Manoj Rabha.

In a separate incident in Assam's Baksa district, another young person went missing in a river while fishing. The incident occurred in Rupohi village at Jalah Tehsil. The youth drowned on Sunday night while fishing and his body was recovered on Monday afternoon following an extensive search operation. The deceased has been identified as Alanbar Gayari.

In a related incident, the body of an individual who had gone missing while bathing in the Brahmaputra River in Morigaon district was found floating at the Lachit Ghat in Guwahati on June 11. The incident took place in Moirabari town, where the youth had gone with his friends for a bath in the river. The deceased, identified as Gulzar, went missing during the outing, and after four days of search efforts, his body was recovered at Lachit Ghat.

Another distressing incident occurred on June 16 when the body of Zahid Ahmed was found floating in the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati's Pandu area. Zahid had gone for a bath at Sukreswar Ghat earlier that day but went missing. Local residents spotted his body in the river near Pandu in the Maligaon area and immediately alerted the authorities. The local police arrived at the scene, recovered the body for post-mortem, and launched further investigations.

On June 5, the body of a man was discovered near the Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) after he reportedly drowned in a pond adjacent to the campus. The person, identified as Samar Deka, had gone to take a bath in the pond when he tragically drowned. His belongings, including a mobile phone, footwear, and clothing, were found beside the pond when he did not return. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was called in and successfully recovered Samar Deka's body on the same day.

These incidents of drowning serve as tragic reminders of the dangers posed by water bodies, especially during adverse weather conditions or when safety precautions are not followed. It is important for individuals to exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings while engaging in activities near rivers, ponds, or other bodies of water.
