GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam has made significant strides in combating corruption by apprehending two Lat Mandals involved in separate bribery incidents. One of the arrested individuals is Jalaluddin Sheikh from Bhuragaon Revenue Circle in Morigaon, while the other is Diganta Baruah from Nazira Revenue Circle in Sivasagar.

When he took a bribe of Rs 20,000, Jalaluddin Sheikh was caught in the act at his home. The goal of the bribe was to hasten the issue of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a brick kiln. In response to the accusation, the authorities launched a quick operation and caught Sheikh in the act.

Diganta Baruah was busted receiving a bribe in another investigation by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. Baruah, a Lat Mandal from the Nazira Revenue Circle, was in charge of issuing land-holding number certificates and tracing maps. As soon as he took the money from the complaint, he was immediately taken into custody.

To announce these successful operations, the department took to Twitter. In one tweet, they stated, "Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red-handed Jalaluddin Sheikh, Lot Mandal of Bhuragaon Revenue Circle, Morigaon at his residence immediately after he accepted Rs. 20,000/- as a bribe from the complainant for issuing NOC for a brick kiln." In another tweet, they further announced, "2nd trap of the day! @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red-handed Diganta Baruah, Lot Mandal of Nazira Revenue Circle, Sivasagar immediately after he accepted a bribe from the complainant for issuing trace map & land holding number certificate."

In a previous incident, the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam Police arrested Ganesh Barman, a Circle Inspector at Simla in Baksa, on charges of bribery. Barman was apprehended based on a complaint stating that he had demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000. The complainant alleged that the money was requested in exchange for some form of "relief" regarding a case.

In recent months, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has been actively pursuing district-based officials involved in corruption. They have successfully arrested several Lat Mandals and officials working in revenue department offices.

These efforts by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption reflect a strong commitment to combating corruption and ensuring transparency in government processes. By apprehending individuals engaged in bribery, they are working towards creating a cleaner and more accountable system in Assam.
