DIBRUGARH:  Due to heavy rain lashed with thunderstorm, the National Highway-37 in Dibrugarh was waterlogged.

Overnight rain waterlogged the streets, causing problems for the local residents as well as the students to pass through the road. “Cars as well heavy vehicles going towards Guwahati face immense problem due to severe waterlogging on NH-37,” said a resident.

Due to unchecked encroachment near the Dibrugarh Town Protection (DTP) drain, the flood water from the town cannot flow easily to the drain, which causes severe waterlogging in some areas Dibrugarh. Similarly, the road near Hotel Garden Treat, which has now become an important link road towards Thana Chariali, has deteriorated due to waterlogging. Due to the dismantling the overbridge, the vehicles passing through the road have to face problems due to the flash flood like situation.

On the other hand, big trees which were uprooted fell on the Dibrugarh AMCH road causing disruption of traffic movement. “Every year due to waterlogging, we face a lot of problem because of poor drainage system. The department concerned construct roads in every ward but fails to construct the drains. Due to faulty construction of roads and unscientific drain construction, waterlogging has become a big problem in Dibrugarh,” alleged a local resident. In the Banipur area, flash flood-like situation occurred due to the heavy spell of rain.
