Assam Will Become Self-Reliant In Power Sector: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: The Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that the state will become self-reliant in the power sector.

''The state will increase its power production to 2000 Megawatts (MW) in the next four years from the current production of 500 Megawatts,'' Sarma said while addressing a gathering of Assam BJP Executive Committee in Diphu on Wednesday.

The Assam CM said also said that the government will primarily give emphasis on green energy.

Apart from announcing this, Sarma also addressed a wide variety of issues pertaining to the state in his speech.

He addressed the Orunodoi scheme during his speech and said that the government has decided to increase the Orunodoi benefit to Rs. 1250 from September 2022 and he informed that 6 lakh new beneficiaries will be added.

Further, he went on to say that a door-to-door verification drive will be conducted with the help of NCC cadets in order to ensure that no ineligible person shall get the benefit.

Himanta also touched upon the farmer's issue in the state and said that only 14 lakh farmers in Assam have so far benefitted from PM Kisan Samman Nidhi out of the total 27 lakh farmers in the state.

Moreover, praising his own government, he further said that the state government has been successful in initiating the process of state procurement of paddy and added that Rs. 800 crores has been infused into the rural economy in the past year.

He emphasis on the long-neglected tea garden workers in Assam and assured them that his government will prioritize their empowerment.

''Under mission Bhumiputra, eligible students of Class 9, 10, 11, and 12 will get their caste certificates in their schools itself,'' he added.

From August 2022, the DC office will collect applications from schools and deliver the certificates in November and provision for online application will also be there, he informed.
