Nagaon: Assam Police apprehended a woman for allegedly writing a pro-ULFA-I post here on Wednesday.
As per reports, the woman identified as Sipra Dutta allegedly expressed her intention to join the militant outfit through a Facebook post.
The woman in her Facebook post also hash-tagged the ULFA(I) commander-in-chief, Paresh Baruah, and accused Assam police and the Assam government of ruining her life.
"I, Sipra Dutta Das wanted to join the banned insurgent outfit, United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) because my life has been ruined by Assam police and Assam Government," Dutta's Facebook post read.
Speaking on the matter, the officer-in-charge, Nagaon Sadar Police Station, Manoj Rajbongshi said, '' So far we have nabbed at least two people speaking in support of ULFA-I. We apprehended one Naba Bora on Monday and later produced him before the court.''
''Dutta Das was taken into custody for making a controversial statement after she claimed to join the banned group and was arrested from Guwahati," he added.
As per reports, the woman's husband said that her wife wrote the Facebook post out of frustration as earlier she spent 12 days in jail after a family dispute, despite being innocent.
''Since she was very disappointed with the system, she to Facebook and expressed her frustration,'' he added.
On August 5, 2022, Assam Police arrested a youth for allegedly making an attempt to join banned ULFA-I in Assam's Nagaon.
As per reports, the arrested youth was identified as Anarul Haque from Juria in the Rupohihat area of the district.
He allegedly attempted to join the insurgent outfit through social media sites. However, it is yet to be ascertained which page it was through which he made an attempt to join the militant outfit.
Apart from the vigil on the ground, the Assam Police is also monitoring social media for pro-ULFA-I posts and blogs. In the last six months, the Assam Police contacted the Facebook (FB) authority and succeeded in having six pro-ULFA-I FB pages blocked.
