Assam: Woman dies due to electrocution in Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: The dereliction on the part of the North Lakhimpur Electrical Subdivision Office and APDCL towards providing quality service and protecting public life continues in Lakhimpur district. In a tragic incident on Thursday, a woman died in the district due to electrocution because of the lackadaisical attitude of the offices concerned towards maintaining the lines transporting high vault electricity. The woman was identified as Senimai Saikia, aged about 65, an inhabitant of Telia Gaon near North Lakhimpur town. As per report received, the woman got electrocuted with hanging electrical wire transporting 11,00,000 electricity. The death of the woman has cast a pall of gloom in the locality. The local public condemned the Power Department by expressing their wrath against the offices concerned for the tragic death of the woman.

The local public demanded the suspension of the officers concerned for the incident. However, the district administration released a compensation of Rs. 4,00,000 to the bereaved family within six hours of the incident. The cheque of the compensation was handed over by Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka.
