MORIGAON: The World Breastfeeding Week on Tuesday was formally inaugurated in Morigaon district. Along with the rest of the world Joint Director of Health Service Office ,Morigaon too celebrated the World Breastfeeding Week amidst enthusiasm at the conference hall of S.T.H.E, Morigaon Civil Hospital. Phani Pathak, Joint Director of Health, Morigaon formally inaugurated the programme in presence of Dr.Arun Nath, Superintendent of MCH, DPM of NHM, Morigaon Zufin Sultana and several district level officers of the health depeartment.
The World Breastfeeding Week started on August 1 and it will run till August 7. Addressing the mothers in the meeting, Joint Director of Health, Morigaon Dr. Phani Pathak spoke about the importance and benefits of breast milk. He said, “There is no substitute for breast milk. It is an important source of nutrition, energy and protection from diseases for babies. Breast milk is the best food and drink for the first 6 months of a baby’s life. No other food or drink is needed during this time, not even water.”
The main objective of this programme is to raise awareness by conveying this important message to every mother in the district. In Morigaon district, ASHAs and other health workers have already taken various practical steps to create awareness about the benefits and needs of breastfeeding. The health department is seeking the cooperation of everyone in this regard.
