TEZPUR: On the occasion of World Fisheries Day, a fisheries information centre on recent technologies in fisheries science was opened at Kurkani village of Balipara development block in Sonitpur district. The centre was opened by students of College of Fisheries, Raha, Nagaon under the Rural Fisheries Work Experience programme (RFWEP) which is going on under the supervision of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Napam, Sonitpur. RFWE programme is a course activity of final year students of College of Fisheries, Raha where they spent two months in rural area to gain practical knowledge about different farming systems and to spread awareness about recent technologies of fishery science among fish farmers.
The centre was inaugurated by Angana Sarmah, Head (i/c), KVK Sonitpur who was the chief guest of the programme. An exhibition of different models and posters of fishery technology was demonstrated in the centre. The programme was attended by 38 fish farmers of Kurkani and nearby villages.
Dr. Ranjit Bordoloi, SMS (Fisheries Science), KVK Sonitpur gave the welcome speech and elaborated about the objective of the programme. Angana Sarmah, Head (i/c), KVK Sonitpur appraised the students for their active participation in RFWE Programme and asked the villagers to grab the opportunity to enhance their practical knowledge in fish farming from the fisheries information centre. The programme was also attended by Dr. Namita Dutta, SMS (Soil Science), Pompy Bora, PA (Community Science) and Sarmistha Borgohain PA (Computer Science) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Napam, Sonitpur.
