Assam: Youth Injured In Acid Attack, Hospitalised

The victim sustained multiple wounds in his body and later was immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition.

Karimganj: A young man suffered burn injuries in an alleged attack in Assam's Karimganj district here on Saturday night.

As per reports, the identified as Manjur Ahmed, was first assaulted and then acid was thrown at him.

Following the incident, locals informed the police after witnessed the assault.

The victim sustained multiple wounds in his body and later was immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the family members of the victim have filed a complaint at the Patharkandi police station.

''The attackers are yet to be identified. However, an investigation has been started and the offenders won't escape from punishment,'' reports quoted an official as saying.

Notably, in the last month, a woman lost her life in Karimganj district after she was allegedly forced to consume acid by her husband and in-laws.

The deceased was identified as Sumna Begum. Reportedly, she was "killed" for giving birth to a girl child as the in-laws and her husband wanted a boy child.

Karimganj district superintendent of police, Padmanabha Baruah, however, denied this allegation.

Baruah said that as per the primary investigation by the police, the quarrel between husband and wife was the reason behind the incident. Ahmed first thrashed Sumna badly and later forced her to drink acid.

"We have arrested Ahmed and his mother," Baruah added.

The incident has come as a shocker to the local residents and there was anger against Shakeel Ahmed and his family.
