Assam:209th birth anniversary of Nepali adikabi Bhanubhakta Acharya observed

The 209th birth anniversary of Nepali adikabi Bhanubhakta Acharya was observed in various parts of the greater Jamugurihat on Thursday as Bhanu Jayanti.

JAMUGURIHAT: The 209th birth anniversary of Nepali adikabi Bhanubhakta Acharya was observed in various parts of the greater Jamugurihat on Thursday as Bhanu Jayanti.

The Dakhin Nagsankar branch of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha (ANSS) had organized a day-long programme in the conference hall of Dakhin Nagsankar HS with Churamoni Dulal, president of the literary body, in the chair. Earlier to the open session, Purna Kumar Sarma, recipient of the translation prize of Sahitya Akademi, planted a sapling. The open session began with illumination of earthen lamps in front of the portrait of the adikabi and offering of floral tribute by Phanindra Upadhyaya, a retired teacher.

Binita Devi narrated the Ramayana translated by the adikabi which was followed by a chorus. A total of 18 invited poets read out their self-composed poems. Anup Sarma, an emerging poet, graced the occasion as an appointed speaker who highlighted the life and literary contributions of the legendary poet. Risiraj Sarma, secretary of the branch, forwarded a vote of thanks. A series of cultural activities were performed by the children and invited artists.

Similarly, the Dipatola branch, Jamugurihat regional committee and Panpur branch committee of the ANSS observed this special day at Dipatola, Jamugurihat and in Panpur. Similarly, the Uttar Jamuguri branch of ANSS organized a programme in the conference hall of Prabhuram Karki Bhawan at Marisuti. The day-long programme began with hoisting of the institutional flag followed by illumination of ceremonial lamp, floral tribute, smriti tarpan etc. in the morning. The open session was held with Dambaru Acharya, president of the branch, and was attended by artiste pensioner Chakrapani Sarma as an appointed speaker, Dinanath Nirola, Mahim Acharya and Kharga Bahadur Chetry as guests of honour. A total of 15 poets read out their self-composed poems.
