Assam:Decision taken to notify Bodo villages under BKWAC within 3 months

Bodo-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) and Third Bodo Peace Accord signatory organization UBPO held a crucial discussion on Tuesday with CM Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding the notification of the Bodo villages under BKWAC, the delimitation of the constituencies of the council concerned, and the holding of its election as soon as possible.

LAKHIMPUR: Bodo-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) and Third Bodo Peace Accord signatory organization United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) held a crucial discussion on Tuesday with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding the notification of the Bodo villages under BKWAC, the delimitation of the constituencies of the council concerned, and the holding of its election as soon as possible. The Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) speaker, Biswajit Daimary, Education-cum-Welfare of Plain Tribe and Backward Classes (non-BTC) Affairs Minister, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, were also present in the meeting.

In this connection, UBPO president Manuranjan Basumatary, general secretary Pitambar Brahma informed that the meeting was held in the conference hall of the ALA speaker’s office, wherein detailed discussion was held over notification of the Bodo villages under BKWAC, delimitation of the constituencies of the council concerned, and holding of the council’s election as per recommendations of the Third Bodo Peace Accord inked on January 27, 2020, in New Delhi, among governments at the Centre and in the State, UBPO, ABSU, and four factions of the NDFB.

After the discussion, a decision was taken to make the list of Bodo villages excluded from the Mising Autonomous Council and Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council without any objections by the two councils concerned, along with other Bodo villages located outside BTAD, in order to include them in BKWAC as per the clause of the Third Bodo Peace Accord. A decision was also taken to chalk out the measures within three months for the exclusion of the Bodo villages from the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council or for the maintenance of the status quo of the same. To come to a unanimous decision in this regard, the Department of Welfare of Plain Tribe and Backward Classes (non-BTC) will hold a meeting among the leaders of the Bodo and Rabha frontal organizations within fifteen days.

The meeting was attended by BKWAC Chief Mihiniswar Basumatary, speaker Anil Basumatary, deputy speaker Srijwn Basumatary, along with several executive members of the council, UBPO president Manuranjan Basumatary, vice presidents Lalit Chandra Brahma and Badal Mussahary, general secretary Pitambar Brahma, assistant general secretary Abiram Boro, speaker Ghanaksnta Mohela, and adviser Sukreswar Goyary.
