LAKHIMPUR: As a part of its field study and extension programme, the Assamese Department of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) organized a series of academic events on Thursday at Ghunasuti High School, located in Ghunasuti, one of the outreach areas of Lakhimpur district.
During the programme, the postgraduate students of the academic department of the college conducted a field study on the folk culture of the Mising tribe under the guidance of the teachers. They also gathered information about the cultural heritage of the tribe and the changes that affect it over time. The agenda of the programme began with a series of academic and intellectual competitions like quiz, essay writing, and speech competitions among the students of Ghunasuti High School. The competitions were held under the management of researchers Kriparekha Gogoi, Khagen Pegu, Shobha Krishna Phukan, Pubali Borah, and Prathana Dutta. The winners of the competitions were awarded a bundle of books and certificates from the college. This initiative was undertaken as part of the field study and extension programme in order to build a habit of reading among the upcoming generations.
It was followed by an interactive programme among the students of the school, titled ‘Kitap Aru Aalap’, under the management of Professors Dr. Dhana Ranjan Kalita and Dr. Dhiraj Pator. In the same programme, the Assamese Department of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) donated a bundle of 22 books to the library of the school. Notably, the Assamese Department of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) set up a library in the Ghunasuti High School in 2015. Thereafter, the academic department has sent more books to the library, by reading which the students of the school have earned benefits. On Friday, the principal of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia, donated an almirah to the school.
During the programme, a public meeting was also organized.
