Guwahati: Assam government is fully prepared to tackle any situation as a large number of stranded people are coming back to the state amid the ongoing fight against corona virus.
All screening and quarantine arrangements have been put in place and doctors, other medical staff and security personnel are working round the clock to ensure that the spread of deadly corona virus is contained.
"We know that the number of cases in Assam is very low compared to other states of the country or the region. But we cannot rejoice or get complacent as many people are coming in from corona hotspots like Maharashtra, Delhi, Ahmedabad and we have to be extra careful that they do not spread the virus in case they are carrying it," Minister of State for Health, Pijush Hazarika said.
The health machinery is prepared to handle any situation, the minister said.
The minister spoke after visiting a blood donation camp held at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
A three-day blood donation camp is being organised at the hospital premises to ensure that there is sufficient stock and no patient faces any difficulty.
"We were beginning to face a shortage of blood as many people who usually donate blood or wanted to donate were unable to come due to the lockdown. This initiative would help in addressing that issue and also replenish the banks. During this period we would be needing a lot of stock," Hazarika said thanking the effort of the junior doctors.
University and medical students participated on day one of the donation camp.
