GUWAHATI: In yet another Assam's daughter's extraordinary feat at International sports events, Kunjalata Boro have won two golds at the just-concluded United International Championship in Nepal.
Kunjalata won gold medals at the women's 100 and 200 meters relays of the events that were held from August 10 to August 15 this year under the aegis of the United India Sports Foundation.
Some BTR based organizations including the All Boro Students' Union(ABSU) and local people have accorded a heroic welcome to the Assam's daughter after she returned to her home at Bhakatpara, Udalguri.
Wife of Ashok Daimary, sprinter Kunjalata constantly could perform well in all her recent international events. She represented India at International Masters' Athletic Championships held in recent years in China, Japan, Spain, and Italy and brought laurels to Assam as well as the country. Kunjalata is also an avid Kabaddi player and represented Assam seven times at different national-level events.
Speaking on her recent feat in the international events, Kunjalata said, " I want to do work for our new generation. I will spend the Rs. 2 lakh that have received from the BTC administration as a reward for the promising sportspersons of the state. There are numerous female sports talents in Assam, but they could not come forward due to lack of opportunity."
She further said that she would help economically unsound sportswomen of the state.
The Bhakatpara regional unit of the All Boro Students' Union felicitated and accorded a warm welcome to the woman athlete. BTC Executive Daoboisa Boro has announced financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh to her.
