GUWAHATI: Locals in Goroimari, Assam, decided to take action against the drug issue in the area and caught three peddlers on Monday.

As per sources, the village security unit captured three persons for selling narcotics nearby and later turned them over to authorities with the assistance of several local, aware youths.

The incident originated at Goroimari town in Assam's Kamrup district. The local village security unit gave Rabiul Haque, a resident of Laruajan village in the Goroimari subdivision, a thrashing when it was discovered that he was trying to sell drugs.

In addition, it was discovered during his interrogation that two additional people, Rakib Hussain and Saddam Hussain, both inhabitants of Mohimari in Goroimari, were also participating in the drug trade.

On the basis of this, the inhabitants of Goroimari also detained Rakib and Saddam Hussain. They were also found to be in possession of up to six drug containers, 11 empty containers, and a syringe for injecting drugs.

Locals then told Goroimari Police about the event, and when police showed up, they confiscated the drugs and arrested the three suspects.

A local from the neighbourhood commented on the situation, saying, "The drug threat has been there in our area for some time now. We decided to intervene after learning that many of the young people were using drugs.”

"Earlier today, the village guard unit received information that the main supplier, Rabiul Haque, brings the drugs and gives them to Rakib Hussain," he added. He continued, "The drugs are then sold all around the city from there. We had to take action to apprehend the three drug sellers and turn them over to Goroimari Police because many of the teenagers has become drug addicts, and several of them recently passed away."
