GUWAHATI: In Dhubri district, the fight against child marriage has taken center stage as authorities intensify their efforts to eradicate this social scourge. The recent crackdown on child marriages in the region is part of a broader campaign initiated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. With a commitment to tackling child marriage head-on, Assam is making significant strides in protecting its vulnerable youth.

The operation in Dhubri district unfolded following an announcement made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, where he pledged to carry out regular crackdowns against child marriages every six months. This proactive stance reflects the state government's determination to combat this deeply entrenched problem. In the latest operation, law enforcement officers conducted a meticulously planned mission in Bilasipara, specifically at Bhalukpong gaon, resulting in the apprehension of three individuals involved in alleged child marriages.

The three suspects have been identified as Sahidur Rahman, Addul Karmi, and Kashme Ali. A case has been registered against them under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). This decisive action sends a strong message that the government is committed to enforcing the law and protecting vulnerable children from the harmful consequences of early marriages.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, speaking on this crucial issue, reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to eradicating child marriage from Assam by 2026. He stated, "Our campaign against child marriage will take place every six months. The next drive will be launched this month. The police are doing their job, and you will hear about some big arrests once the drive is launched."

This commitment is further demonstrated by the allocation of Rs 200 crores towards the campaign against child marriage. These funds are earmarked to support the appointment of a special advocate for each child marriage case, ensuring that legal proceedings are carried out effectively.

Assam's proactive approach serves as a model for other regions struggling with the issue of child marriage. By conducting regular crackdowns, allocating significant resources, and engaging in community outreach, Assam is setting a precedent for the nation in its quest to protect its children from the shackles of early marriage.

As the state continues its determined fight against child marriage, it remains steadfast in its commitment to securing a brighter future for its youth. The recent arrests in Dhubri district are just one step in the ongoing battle, but they signify a resolute effort to break the chains of child marriage and safeguard the rights and well-being of the next generation.
