Assembly poll: Darrang witnesses overall turnout of 85.13 pc

A total of 7,14,219 voters out of the total voters of 8,38,958 of the four Legislative Assembly Constituencies in Darrang district exercised their democratic rights

MANGALDAI: A total of 7,14,219 voters out of the total voters of 8,38,958 of the four Legislative Assembly Constituencies in Darrang district exercised their democratic rights in the second phase of Assembly poll on April 1, making the overall turnout of 85.13 per cent.

Total 3,66,257 male voters out of total 4,26,933 male voters (85.79 per cent) voted, while the female voters also did not lag behind. A total of 3,47,960 female voters out of the total of 4,12,009 female voters (84.45 per cent) took part in the poll.

In 65 Kalaigaon LAC, the total number of voters is 1,83,507 (male 92,879 and female 90,627) of which 1,48,342 (male 75,369, female 72,972) cast their vote with a total turnout of 80.84 per cent. Of the 1,77,782 total voters (male 91,230, female 90,627) in 66 Sipajhar LAC, a total of 1,48,042 voters (male 76,928, female 71,114) took part in the polling process, making the turnover at 83.27 per cent. The 67 Mangaldai (SC) LAC recorded a turnout of 85.71 per cent with the participation of 2,03,130 voters (male 1,03,840, female 99,290) out of the total voters of 2,36,985 (male 1,20,051, female 1,16,932). The 68 Dalgaon LAC witnessed a turnout of 89.21 per cent as a total of 2,14,705 voters (male 1,10,120, female 1,04,584) out of the total voters of 2,40,684 (male 1,22,773, female 1,17,905) participated in the poll.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer of Darrang, Dilip Kumar Borah congratulated the people of the district for their strong participation in the poll in the second phase and also expressed his gratitude to the people for their cooperation in making the poll free, fair and safe.

"I have strong faith in the peace-loving citizens of Darrang district and they have doubled it with their strong participation in the poll and appreciating their commitment towards our democracy. I congratulate them. I am also thankful to all the employees engaged in the poll duty, the police personnel and the central para-military forces, home guard jawans, members of Village Defense Organization, members of media fraternity, the officials of district administration and the drivers, handymen, vehicle owners and passenger Bus Associations for their yeoman's service in holding the election peacefully," said Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Dilip Kumar Borah while talking to The Sentinel on Friday afternoon.
