Haflong: In a horrifying incident in Dima Hasao, four drivers and one handyman were killed after miscreants fired bullets at seven trucks and set one of them on fire. One person has been critically injured and has been taken to the hospital. The incident is said to have taken place in the Ranger Beel of the district today early morning.

According to sources, the trucks were stopped at around 8:30 am this morning by a group of armed men. Out of the seven, six trucks were transporting cement while the other was transporting coal.

Jayant Singh, the Superintendent of Police of Dima Hasao said, "The group fired at the vehicles for several minutes and then set them afire. Five persons have died in the incident and one sustained injury. All of them are drivers and handymen of the trucks."

As per reports, at least 5 bodies have been recovered from the burning truck as of now. The attack took place when the trucks were en route to Lanka from Umrangso.

The fire has now been doused. The police are currently investigating this matter.

The authorities are suspecting the involvement of the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) in this incident.

Earlier in May, At least six Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) extremists were shot dead on Sunday in an encounter with the police and Assam Rifles in the Dhansiri Area of Karbi Anglong district.

In April 2019, the DNLA was formed to fight for a sovereign 'Dimasa nation'. The members of the DNLA outfit have allegedly been trained by the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, which has been engaged in talks with the Central government for the past many years.

The DNLA has been active in certain areas of Karbi Anglong as well as adjoining the Dima Hasao district.
