TINSUKIA: An awareness-cum-training programme on cultivation and processing of medicinal and aromatic plants was organized by North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Jorhat in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tinsukia on Thursday at the training hall of KVK, Tinsukia.

In his inaugural address, Dr Sanjoy Borthakur, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Tinsukia, briefed the trainees from across Tinsukia district about the importance of the programme. Dr. Mohan Lal, senior scientist, NEIST, discussed the importance of medicinal and aromatic plants and cultivation practices and processing of Citronella, lemon grass and Patchouli in detail.

The programme was attended by 33 farmers and farm women of Ithakhuli, Hapjan, Kakopathar and Sadiya block of Tinsukia district along with all the Scientists of the KVK, Tinsukia. The farmers showed keen interest in cultivation of these crops, besides discussion was also held in some issues regarding cultivation practice of King Chilli. Dr Lal has also assured the farmers of his guidance and support in carrying out cultivation of these aromatic plants in farmers' field in the near future. Dr Borthakur thanked Dr. Mohan Lal for collaborating with KVK, Tinsukia and in arranging the programme for the farmers of the district.
