Awareness on violence against women organized at Margherita Tea Estate

An awareness camp on ‘Elimination of Violence against Women’ was organized on Thursday by the Sub-Divisional (Civil) administration at Margherita Tea Estate

TINSUKIA: An awareness camp on 'Elimination of Violence against Women' was organized on Thursday by the Sub-Divisional (Civil) administration at Margherita Tea Estate for the women living and working in the tea gardens. The theme was 'Naari Shakti- With you; For you'. This camp was organized in view of the UNITE campaign an initiative of 16 days activism to end violence against women and girls launched on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women on November 25 and will conclude on the International Human Rights Day on December 10

Preeti Kumari, SDO(C), was the chief guest for the event and addressed the women in particular reflecting on the matter, that violence against women is not a small issue though the administration will always stand by the victim. She also added that self-respect is an important factor and the first step to get help is asking for help and women should not hesitate in standing up against any sort of violence. Kamlesh Chakraborty, senior advocate, and Puspa Singh, Associate Professor, Margherita College, spoke on the occasion.
