Awareness programme on cultivation of medicinal plants held in KVK, Barpeta

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Barpeta organized a programme on ‘Cultivation of medicinal plants’ on Wednesday at its campus at Howly as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

BARPETA: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Barpeta organized a programme on 'Cultivation of medicinal plants' on Wednesday at its campus at Howly as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Distributing medicinal plants to farmers, Tej Prasad Bhusal, Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, called upon the farmers to take interest in Ayurvedic medicine as it was an ancient healing practice of India which had relevance in the present era too. He stressed the need of preserving the herbal species so that the upcoming generations get acquainted with the plants.

Earlier, Dr. Arup Kumar Deka, Head of KVK, Barpeta welcomed all the and narrated briefly the need and objective of holding such awareness programmes. Later, a technical lecture on 'Cultivation of medicinal plants' was delivered by Lipika Nath, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture). Altogether, 40 farmers and farm women along with all the scientists of KVK took part in the programme receiving 700 saplings.
