Awareness programme under Swachh Bharat Mission organised at Bhairabkunda

GUWAHATI: The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, North Eastern Regional office, Guwahati organised a two day programme at Bhairabkunda on November 26 and 27. On the first day, an awareness programme under the Swachh Bharat Mission was held in the community hall at Angarajuli Village to create awareness among the villagers about sanitation and maintaining a hygienic environment in order to encourage tourists to visit the destination. During the programme, locals were educated on the significance of cleanliness, waste disposal and segregation, and solid waste management, among other topics.

On the second day, a programme was held on "Contribution of the tribal communities to nation building." Jyotirmoy Biswas, North Eastern Regional office, Assistant Director of the Ministry of Tourism addressed the distinguished gathering and extended a warm welcome. He stated that cleanliness is everyone's responsibility, and under Swachh Bharat Mission, the department is attempting to ensure proper cleanliness and minimal plastic usage. He emphasized that recycling and reuse are the most effective ways to reduce waste, and he urged the audience to adhere to the 3R's for a better future and applauded the august gathering in protecting the environment, especially the role played by the local people in the development of Gethsamane Forest – a barren land into a tourist destination at Bhairabkunda.

The residents of Angrajuli, particularly the young, joined enthusiastically in a cleaning campaign. The Ministry of Tourism, North Eastern Regional Tourism, Guwahati presented the community with biodegradable dustbins.

Lamdra Wangdi, the Sub Divisional officer of Jomotsankha, Bhutan also graced the occasion and showed his concern towards global warming and the future of the next generation. "The public must cooperate with the government and take responsibility for a better tomorrow," he said, stated a press release.
