Awareness training organized on Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana by KVK, Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dibrugarh, with due support from ATARI Guwahati Office of ICAR, New Delhi and Assam Agricultural University Jorhat, organized an awareness training on Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana under Tengakhat development block. Elaborating the details about the crop insurance programme of government of India, the course director of the programme Hemchandra Saikia of KVK Dibrugarh urged the farmers to avail the benefits of this Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for those crops notified by the directorate of Agriculture, government of Assam.

He mentioned that this insurance scheme is very farmers friendly and beneficial to them as the premium payable on the part of farmer is very low, only 1.5 per cent of sum assured of a given rabi crop and 2 per cent for a given kharif crop and rest of the premium is shared by both state and central government on 50:50 ratio. He cited that for the farmers of Dibrugarh district if they wish to insure rapeseed and mustard crop, then they have to pay a sum of Rs 81.45 per bigha of cultivated land but application has to submit before December 31. For this they can contact nearest agricultural extension agent of district agricultural office and also the agent of concerned insurance company and for Dibrugarh it is Future General India Insurance Company Limited. For those farmers who will be cultivating the crop with a crop loan, their premium will be automatically deducted from their loan amount sanctioned and only non-loanee has to pay their premium. Altogether 30 farmers participated in the programme.
