JAMUGURIHAT: The great Assamese poet, lyricist, composer and eminent litterateur Keshab Mahanta was remembered on his 95th birth anniversary by the Sootea branch of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) at Sootea on Wednesday.

The memorial meeting held in the auditorium of NaduwarSangeetVidyapeet, Sootea was chaired by Ramen Bor, the president of Sootea branch of Axam Xahitya Xabha. RajenSahu; advisor of Sootea branch of AXX, lit up the ceremonial lamp, which was followed by floral tribute and borgeet by HarshitaKashyap. Attending the meeting as an appointed speaker, Dr. Basanta Bora, associate professor of Nanoi College, Nagaon highlighted the life of the legendary writer along with recalling his literary and artistic contributions. RatulBhuyan, senior journalist of Sootea, unveiled the book titled Gitika compiled by writer MayurakhiMahantaSaikia on the life and ideology of KeshabMahanta.

HarshitaNandiniBharadwaj and AlakanandaBhuyan sang songs while PurabiHazarika read out the poem composed by KeshabMahanta. An Assamese audio cassette titled Tumaloi Mur, recorded by Dr. Basanata Bora, was also released by Dr. Dilip Kumar Bhuyan.
