  Narayanpur session of AXX witnesses huge crowd of book lovers

LAKHIMPUR: "Axam Xahitya Xabha is not an organization only, this literary body is the entity and identity of the State. It has kept the people of Assam integrated, united since its inception in 1917. The session of the Axam Xahitya Xabha is the biggest confluence of the literature, language and culture of the State," stated Kuladhar Saikia, the president of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) in Lakhimpur on Wednesday.

Saikia said so while delivering a brief lecture after hoisting the AXX flag in the 76th Narayanpur session of the literary body at Monikanchan Kshetra. On Wednesday, the extravaganza witnessed thick assembly of literary activists, thick crowd of book lovers who arrived at the Monikanchan Kshetra from different parts of the State to eulogize the Assamese language with the evergreen words Chira Senehi Mor Bhasa Janani... (My mother language is always adorable).

Notably, the second day agenda of the Narayanpur session of the AXX began with the unfurling of 76 flags. The AXX flag was hoisted by president Kuladhar Saikia while the rest flags were unfurled by various prominent literary activists. Assistant general secretary of All Assam Students' Union, Ratul Kumar Dutta administered the swahid tarpan event while Golok Hazarika, the general secretary of the Bihpuria session of the AXX, and prominent theatre activist, artiste Najim Ahmed conducted the smriti tarpan event. Then the main pandal of the extravaganza was inaugurated by Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, the Bihpuria MLA-cum-president of the reception committee.

On the second day of the session, a total of 36 books were inaugurated. The souvenir of the extravaganza, titled as Narayanpur Darpan was released by Manoj Kumar Goswami, the Sahitya Akademi award winner, prominent prose writer and journalist of the State. Speaking on the occasion, Manoj Kumar Goswami said, "Assamese language is one of the prominent 50 languages of the State. It is the need of hour that the intellectual section of the State should do something unique to protect the language." In connection, Goswami further said that a language is more powerful than a religion.

The event was chaired by AXX president Kuladhar Saikia in the presence of AXX vice-president Mrinalini Devi. In the same event, five books- Prasanga Madhavdev, Asomor Janagosthi, Bor-Narayanpuror Rengani, Nirbachita Kobir Kabita Samagra (anthology of poems) and Kalpadrum (anthology of poems) were released by Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan and other guests of the event. In addition, a total of 30 more books authored by several prominent, emerging literary activists from different parts of the State were released by invited guests.

On the other hand, the 'Janapriya Bigyan Xahitya Sanmilan' (conference on popular science literature) was held in the book fair venue. The event was inaugurated by Dr Dibakar Chandra Deka, the Vice- Chancellor of the Madhavdev University.

It was followed by the Kabi Sanmilan event which was inaugurated by Hriday Ranjan Das, a prominent poet of the State. Poet-cum-academician Biren Sarmah chaired the event which was held under the management of Umesh Sonowal, Junmoni Saikia and Krishna Hazarika. Over 50 prominent poets of the State recited self-composed poems in the event.

On the other hand, the 'Kuhi' event, the programme dedicated for children, was organized in the main pandal of the conference in a befitting and attractive manner. The event was inaugurated by Dr Jyotikamal Hazarika, the Principal of Tezpur College, in the presence of a galaxy of prominent figures who are dedicatedly working for the betterment of the children. Over hundred talented children from various districts performed cultural items in the event. In the same event, three children, who have brought laurels to the district with their unique talents in State and national platform, were given warm felicitation. These children are writer Kuhi Chetia, chess player Swaraj Jyoti Neog, and orator Darshana Phukan.
