Bails of 23 land brokers denied in Dhubri Court

DHUBRI: Bail of all the 23 persons arrested by Dhubri Police on Tuesday and Wednesday, was denied in Dhubri Court. The lawyers of 23 accused pleaded bail in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, but the court sent them all to judicial custody till September 30.

An order was sent from the Chief Minister's office to all Deputy Commissioners to take action against the alleged land brokers who were calling shots in land sale and purchase, and allegedly grabbing khas land of government by converting the land into patta land by paying minimal khajna, a source in the Dhubri administration said.

The source also informed that by this modus operandi, the brokers, allegedly in connivance with the officials in the circle offices across Assam, amassed a lot of money to the tune of crores of rupees each month.

When contacted by The Sentinel, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anbamathun MP informed that he had lodged FIR against 10 persons and others allegedly involved in land brokerage.

"Apart from 10 persons, 13 others have been arrested as their involvement and links have been found, and this action will continue till land brokerage is not totally uprooted," Anbamathun said.
