PATHSALA: The strong room for the last Lok Sabha election is yet to be vacated at Bajali College by the election authority though the election process has already been over and the new government has taken oath.

A portion of Bajali College was used for conducting the Lok Sabha election and EVMs were stocked in the college after election and counting. Till the filing of this report, the huge portion remains covered as restricted area. In this portion of the college are situated the classrooms, various departments and laboratory.

“Due to the strong room, the college is facing problems to continue classes and conduct final practical examination. The small portion is not sufficient for conducting the classes,” said Principal Chandana Sarma. She also appealed to the authority concerned to vacate the college as early as possible considering the problems faced by the students.

President of the students’ union, Subhrajit Kalita also expressed strong resentment at the present state of the college. The college was occupied by the election authority before the election and after that it was occupied by security personnel. Students of Mass Communication and Journalism had to shift their department to a temporary place.

The students have appealed to the election authority to shift the EVMs from the college and vacate the place. Dr. Binita Bora Dev Choudhury, Associate Professor of Assamese, said that under the semester system of education, students got a small duration of time for a semester and as a result there often faced problems in completing the course. Some of the teachers were also deployed in the other government work which affected the educational atmosphere of the college. She also appealed to the authority to take necessary action so that students were not affected any further.
