Ban on sale & transportation of pigs to prevent spread of swine fever

TEZPUR: In pursuance of instructions received from the Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department in connection with prevention of spread of classical swine fever in pig population and to take all precautionary measures to stop the virus from spreading to other areas of the district, the Additional District Magistrate, Sonitpur, Rohan Kumar Jha, has U/S 144 Cr.P.C. promulgated a prohibition on the transportation of pigs, including personal carrying of pigs; slaughtering and selling of pigs; inter-district movement of pig and pork; mixing up of pigs with other pigs of the neighbourhood; sale of pig carcass and disposal of pig carcass by deep burial without adopting bio-safety measures; discarding of pig carcass in rivers or in open areas/ spaces; transportation and distribution of pig feed from one farm to the other.

Pig rearers will, however, be allowed to procure feed for their own farm from the shops and authorized dealers. In case of any high fever, any abnormal mortality in pigs all pig rearers should immediately bring it to the notice of local veterinarians/ local administration. Strict bio-security measures including routine disinfection of the farms will have to be carried out by the concerned department. The order will come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further order. Any violation of this order will be punishable U/S 188 IPC.

All other activities specified as exempted above will remain prohibited in the entire district until further orders. The order will come into force with immediate effect throughout Sonitpur district and will remain valid for the lockdown period and until further orders.
