Bangladesh government clears decks for repatriation of rickshaw puller of Mangaldai

MANGALDAI: All decks have been cleared by the Bangladesh government to repatriate the helpless rickshaw puller Mukul Hazarika of a Mangaldai village who went missing in 2017; and, was later traced out in a jail in Bangladesh in 2019.

The Sentinel in its issues on May 9, 2019 and also on July 22, 2021 covered the heart-touching story of the poor plight of the rural youth. He has been languishing in the Jail even after the expiry of his jail term three years back. Moreover, it is yet to ascertained as to how he landed in the Feni Jail.

Following request from journalist Bhargab Kumar Das of The Sentinel, Abu Ali — a senior journalist of Bangladesh — communicated with the Government of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh jail authority concerned on Friday. He also informed Das on the evening of July 23 over phone that the Bangladesh government and the judicial Court have approved on the release of Mukul Hazarika.

Meanwhile the BGB (Border Guards Bangladesh) has made a communication with the BSF (Border Security Force) to fix a date for the flag meeting. In the flag meeting, Mukul Hazarika will be handed over to the BSF at Birulia Gate.

Earlier on July 20, Darrang Superintendent of Police Sushanta Biswa Sarma had written a letter to the DGP (Deputy Inspector General of Police)-cum-Secretary (Home) Diganta Bora and IGP (Inspector General of Police)-SB Hiren Chandra Nath for repatriation of Mukul Hazarika.

On getting the information from Bangladesh journalist Abu Ali, Darrang SP S.B. Sarma on Saturday requested the Assam government to take up the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
