SILCHAR: Raising serious doubt over the efficiency of the BSF, a youth from Bangladesh crossed the double barricade with his motorbike at the Sutarkandi border and easily entered Karimganj. The mysterious entry of the Bangladeshi youth on the eve of Bakri Idd had created much hullabaloo in the bordering town on Wednesday night as Karimganj MLA Kamalakha Dey Purkayastha came out on the street and pointed fingers at the BSF. The motorbike bearing registration number ‘Sylhet H 14-9638, written in Bengali, was found abandoned at Old Station Road, though the biker was missing. Sources said the youth crossed two BSF barricades at Sutarkandi land port with his speeding bike in the late afternoon and rushed to the town area. A good number of BSF jawans guarded these barricades, but surprisingly, none could stop the mysterious biker. Further, how could two barricades remain open? This is another serious question that demands an answer. Sources said the BSF chased the speeding bike, but the youth vanished in the crowd.

Tension mounted when the bike was found abandoned on Old Station Road on Wednesday night. DSP Geethartha Sarma rushed to the spot, and a search operation was initiated. Meanwhile, Purkayastha appeared on the scene and lambasted the BSF. He feared that the possibility of subversive activities during the IDD could not be ruled out. Purkayastha said he would take up the issue with the Union Home Ministry.
