SILCHAR: Maintaining that Barak Valley had been subjected to utter negligence by the authorities for the last seven decades, Barak Democratic Front raised a demand for separate economic council for the valley. The executive committee of BDF on its meeting on Wednesday endorsed the decision to raise the demand in all appropriate forums.

Pradip Dutta Roy, chief convener of BDF said, "The valley had immense natural as well as human resources. The geopolitical location of Barak Valley was another added opportunity. A proper and concerted move from both central and State government would have seen the valley in a much better position." The BDF leader pointed finger at the local leaders who, as he blamed, lack foresightedness and sincerity. Dutta Roy said, partial autonomy for the region was the ultimate solution for the development of Barak Valley. With this goal, BDF from now onwards would fight for separate economic council. He urged upon all the organisations, intellectuals as well as commoners to unite themselves with BDF to achieve this demand.
