DHUBRI: Dhubri unit of Bharatiyam, an NGO, with the sponsorship of Regional Engineering College of Silchar, 1996 Batch Charity Foundation, installed tube wells in Dhubri's flood-hit areas without drinking water facility.

The activists of Bharatiyam installed a hand tube well at Harijan Colony near the Electricity Board Office on Friday. The programme was inaugurated by the president of the Harijan Colony, Sankar Basfore.

President of Dhubri unit of Bharatiyam, Chiranjit Roy said that neither Dhubri Municipal Board nor the urban water drinking water supply run by the Public Health Engineering could supply the drinking water to all the areas and residents of Dhubri town. "We surveyed and found that there was acute crisis of drinking water during successive flood in certain and large areas of Dhubri town. We took up the mission to provide drinking water by installing deep tube wells," Roy said. Bharatiyam has already installed some hand tube wells and is planning to install more in Dhubri town, a source in Bharatiyam said.
