KOKRAJHAR: At a time when the UPPL (United People's Party Liberal)-led coalition government in BTC celebrated the closing ceremony of the 1st BTR Accord Day on January 27 at Ambagaon HS School playground in Udalguri, the All India Bodo Tribal National League for Bodoland Statehood (BTNL) and Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) tried to observe 'Black Day' on that day, terming the new accord as unacceptable. But the protest programme was not fully successful as the security forces confined and blocked the road of former Lok Sabha MP and president of the BTNL.
Talking to this correspondent, former MP and president of BTNL, SK Bwiswmuthiary said that the people of the region could not accept the BTR Accord for many reasons and thus they decided to observe the day as 'Black Day'. But the security forces prevented them and their supporters. He said that his residence in Titaguri (Kanthalguri) was confined by the security personnel and the road was blocked so he could not come out of the house. He said that they hoisted black flags in certain places to oppose the BTR Accord and gathered to take out a protest rally but the police administration prevented them. He, however, said that they submitted memorandum to the Government of India through the Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar rejecting the BTR Accord.
Bwiswmuthiary said that it was unfortunate that the right to speech and right to freedom of movement were violated by the police personnel as he was confined in the house and not allowed to move. He appealed to the Government of India to save the democracy and respect the democratic rights of the citizens.
Meanwhile, the working president of the BJSM, DD Narzary said that the BTR accord had finished off the dream of separate Bodoland state. He reiterated that the then All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) president Pramod Boro had sold the statehood demand of the Bodos and has forgotten the sacrifice of thousands of Bodo youths for the cause for his political ambition.
Narzary said that the BTR accord was signed with all factions of the NDFB along with the ABSU and UBPO (United Bodo People's Organization) but despite this fact, the founder chairman of the NDFB, Ranjan Daimary was put in jail. He said that the Government of India had released anti-India elements from jail but Ranjan Daimary, who was a son of the soil of Assam, was still in jail despite the fact that he signed the 3rd Bodo accord.
