PATHSALA: Two youths of Bajali have started cultivation in an innovative way which may reduce the labour of cultivation as one person can sow seeds in one bigha land in just 15 minutes.

In order to popularize the new method, known as drum seeding process, under the initiative of APART and KVK, Barpeta, guidance, seeds and all necessary technical aid have been provided by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK). "This type of cultivation may reduce labour and is time-saving, besides being women-friendly. The aim of the project is to popularize this method among farmers. In this method there is no need of preparing seedling bed and no need of transplant seedling," said Mridupaban Mudoi, junior researcher, International Rice Research Institute.

"The programme is initiated by APART with KVK Barpeta. Ranjit sub-1 variety rice is flood-resistant variety and may produce 700 kg to 800 kg rice per bigha of land. One person can easily sow seeds in 10 bighas of land daily," he added.

Youths like Kamal Talukdar and Bikash Patgiri are happy to cultivate using this new process and are hopeful of getting good result. The duo cultivated in two plots of land, one in Muguria village and another at Chouliabari under Bajali district. All total 16 bighas of land were covered under the project.
