Boko: The All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU) and All Rabha Women Council’s (ARWC) 17th and 10th biennial conference started on Thursday with colourful traditional dance at Dudhnai Public Playground in Goalpara district.
The three-day-long conference will conclude on January 11 in collaboration with Goalpara District Rabha Students’Union and Goalpara District Rabha Women Council. Delegates from eleven districts, which include Kamrup, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Baksa, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Golaghat, and Tinsukia, are taking part in the conference along with delegates from Meghalaya and West Bengal. In the conference, 23 regional units from Goalpara and 13 from Kamrup district are also participating.
Hiteswar Rabha, secretary of Kamrup district ARSU, said that the conference would address key issues related to socio-economic, education and political scenario, including the ongoing demand for Sixth Schedule status to the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council area in order to protect it from illegal encroachment and to create provisions for promoting cultural and ethnic identity of the Rabhas as well as other indigenous people living in the region.
