Bihar Train Mishap: Relief Train With Stranded Passengers to Reach Guwahati Tonight

The relief train is responsible for returning a total of 1,006 passengers who were stranded at the accident site in Raghunathpur.

GUWAHATI: The special relief train dispatched from Kamakhya Junction to retrieve stranded passengers from the derailed 12506 Northeast Express, which had six coaches derail near Buxar in Bihar on Wednesday, is anticipated to reach Guwahati at approximately 10:30 pm tonight.

Reports indicate that this relief train is responsible for returning a total of 1,006 passengers who were stranded at the accident site in Raghunathpur. It is scheduled to arrive at Kamakhya Junction between 10:30 pm and 11:00 pm.

Additionally, the Indian Railways has assumed the responsibility of providing immediate food and essential requirements for the affected passengers.

Calls made to the helpline numbers issued by the Railways have revealed that two individuals are still unaccounted for in the aftermath of the incident.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and conveyed his wishes for the swift recovery of the injured. He also mentioned that a relief train had already departed from Raghunathpur to Kamakhya Junction to facilitate the return of the stranded passengers of Train 12506. In a prior statement, he noted, "I have received news of the derailment of North East Express 12506 - from Anand Vihar to Kamakhya. We are closely monitoring the situation and are establishing contact with local authorities and other agencies."

It's worth noting that four fatalities have been confirmed in the tragic train accident that occurred near Bihar's Buxar. Six coaches of the 12506 Delhi-Kamakhya Northeast Express derailed during the incident. Additionally, over 70 people have sustained injuries and have been admitted to various hospitals for medical treatment.

Tarun Prakash, the General Manager of the East Central Railway, was present at the Raghunathpur site to oversee the restoration efforts following the derailment of multiple coaches of the North East Express travelling from Anand Vihar Terminus in Delhi.

Prakash provided an update, stating, "The total count of casualties stands at four, with 40 passengers reported as injured. The precise cause of the derailment can only be determined through a thorough investigation. Our current focus is on expeditiously clearing the railway tracks. During this time, train services along this route will be rerouted."
