Bihu dancer Nirmali Konwar passes away after prolonged illness

DOOMDOOMA : Nirmali Konwar (Gogoi), a promising actress and Bihu dancer, passed away after prolonged illness on Tuesday evening at her residence at Milantirtha, Rupaisiding. She was only 43 and was suffering from cancer. She is survived by her husband and a daughter, besides a host of relatives and admirers.

She stepped into the field of culture as a Bihu dancer during her school days and later won the titles of Bihu Kuwari , Bihuwoti and Bor Bihuwoti on several Bihu stages across the State. In her college days, she won the title of Best Mime Actress for three consecutive years in the Youth Festival of Dibrugarh University and brought accolade to Doomdooma College. She was also closely associated with the amateur theatrical groups of Doomdooma. She was a regular actress of the socio-cultural organizations Doomdooma Milanjyoti Sangha and ANAM. She won several prizes in many State-level drama competitions too. Her last rites were performed at Rupai Siding Public Cremation Ground on Tuesday night in presence of her family members, her associates of the cultural field and her admirers. The premature death of this promising artiste cast a pall of gloom in the entire Doomdooma circle and was widely mourned by various socio-cultural organizations.
