Bike Rally on road safety organized by Lakhimpur Commerce College

LAKHIMPUR: A bike rally to create awareness on road safety was taken out by in Lakhimpur Commerce College on Saturday. Organized by the college in association with district transport department as part of its golden jubilee celebrations, the bike rally was flagged off by Principal Dr. Lohit Hazarika from the main gate of the college in presence of teachers and office staff, current and ex-students and enthusiast public.

Speaking on the occasion Principal Dr Lohit Hazarika said, “In 2019, 11,41,141 persons lost their lives in the country for not wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers. Therefore the Lakhimpur Commerce College is organizing the rally to create awareness on road safety and obeying traffic rules. Through this rally the Lakhimpur Commerce College is appealing the public to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers, to put seat-belts while driving cars and to obey every traffic rules.”

The bike rally covered a route of 15 kms across Lakhimpur town before returning to the college. Alumni of the college Jadumani Baruah, Dimpey Pareek, Mridul Kalita, Chimpal Hazarika and several teachers and members of students union of the college participated in the bike rally.

On the other hand, National Librarian’s Day was also observed in Lakhimpur Commerce College on Saturday. In this connection, floral tributes were paid to Dr. SR Ranganathan on the occasion of his 131st birth anniversary at Lakhimpur Commerce College on Saturday. Observed as the National Librarian’s Day it was celebrated in the college with convergence of working librarians and discussions on the life and works of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the father of library science in India. A function was organized by the central library of the college which was chaired by Principal, Dr. Lohit Hazarika.

The function began with the lighting of traditional lamp in front of the portrait of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan by Vice Principal Prof. Gopal Kumar Chetry. The objective of the meeting was explained by Runjun Bruah, Liberian of the central library of Lakhimpur Commerce College. Dr. Nikhil Hazarika, librarian of Madhabdev University, Narayanpur attended the function as the appointed speaker.

Delivering his speech, Dr. Hazarika spoke about various aspects of the works of Dr. Ranganathan and his legacy in the present academic world. He spoke in details of Colon Classification, a code of library book classification developed by Dr. Ranganathan and its immense contribution to the development of library and information science.

The function was attended by the librarian of Lakhimpur District Library, Deepanjali Das, librarian of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Nizara Gogoi, librarian of LKM College Pradeep Dutta, librarian LTK College Diganta Hazong and librarian of Bihpuria College Mahamaya Chetry. All the invited librarians of various institutions of Lakhimpur district were felicitated by Lakhimpur Commerce College on that occasion. The entire function was anchored by Dr. Harinee P. Das, Assistant Professor, Lakhimpur Commerce College.
