BILASIPARA: In protest against the arrest of scribe Rajib Sarma, media persons under Bilasipara Press Club staged a dharna wearing black badges on Monday in front of the Bilasipara Press Club. The local leaders of AASU, AKRSU, Goriya-Moria Jatiya Parishad, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) also participated in the dharna and expressed their solidarity. The gathering was addressed by senior journalist Dayal Paul, advocate-cum-legal advisor of Bilasipara Press Club, Sahnawaz Hussain and other dignitaries. The speakers condemned the arrest of Rajib Sarma and demanded immediate suspension of the Dhubri Superintendent of Police and DFO Biswajit Roy. They also demanded CBI inquiry against those involved actively in cattle smuggling and timber smuggling. They also demanded withdrawal of all legal proceedings against Rajib Sarma.
