Binu Phukan, Social worker of Gaurisagar passes away in Dibrugarh Sankardev Nurshing Home

GAURISAGAR: Binu Phukan, founder teacher of Gaurisagar MV School and wife of late noted educationist journalist Deben Saikia and a resident of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district passed away Monday night at Dibrugarh Sankardev Nurshing Home. She was 85. She had been admitted in the hospital for a couple of days. She was a popular teacher and a social worker. She got superannuation as a Headmistresses in Gaurisagar MV School in 2004. After retirement she was actively associated with Singkhap Mahila Samiti and NGO Krishak Nyas.

For her amicable behaviour and hospitality she was loved and respected by all. Having spread her demise news people from various walks of field gathered at her residence and paid homage. A shraddhanjali function was held at her residence before cremation. Montu Kalita, social and cultural activist anchored it where the representative of Gaurisagar MV School, Gaurisagar Bor Naamghar Samaj, Gaurisagar Press Club, Gaurisagar Sakha Xahitya Xabha paid tributes.

Besides Punaram Mili, president of Sivasagar District Sport Association, Himadrijyoti Dutta, former president, All Assam HS Teachers and Employees Association, educationist Nripen Hazarika, Dilip Kumar Neog and Suresh Borah also paid tribute. In the shraddhanjali function Suresh Borah and Dilip Kumar Neog highlighted the contributions of Binu Phukan towards building of Gaurisagar. She is survived by his two sons, two daughters and a host of relatives . Her last rites were performed at Sivasagar Thanamukh cremation ground.
