LAKHIMPUR: One of the prominent personalities who had tremendous contribution in building modern Dhakuakhana of Lakhimpur district is Satish Chandra Gogoi. He was involved in establishing various academic institutions, offices of various government departments, agencies and setting up a number of social institutions and organizations in larger Dhakuakhana area. In order to pay him due reverence appreciating his tremendous contribution to the society and humanity, the people of Dhakuakhana decided to hold the centenary celebration of his birth anniversary on April 22. But all the scheduled programmes in this connection had to be cancelled on account of the present surge of coronavirus contagion.
As a result of it, the programmes of the centenary celebration of the birth anniversary of the personality could not be observed on Thursday. However, the biography of Satish Chandra Gogoi, titled Headmaster and written by his daughter Mamoni Gogoi Borgohain, was released on the same day. On this occasion, a brief programme was held at the residence of Nabanita Gogoi in Dhakuakhana. The programme commenced with Prafulla Chutia, headmaster of Dhakuakhana Girls' High School, in the chair.
The biography was released by prominent writer-cum-poet Joychandra Hazarika. Attending the event, Dhakuakhana Normal School principal Khirod Gogoi, social activist Lalitya Kumar Das, poets Mouchumi Gogoi Hatibaruah and Rajib Tamuli, delivered speeches commemorating Satish Chandra Gogoi.
