Biswanath Administration Chalks Out Steps to Improve Road Condition

Residents of Biswanath district will soon witness many positive changes as far as the condition of roads in the district is concerned.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: Residents of Biswanath district will soon witness many positive changes as far as the condition of roads in the district is concerned. While chairing a District Road Safety Committee meeting here on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath, Pranab Kumar Sarmah, issued various instructions and orders to the Public Works Department (PWD), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) and other departments concerned in this regard.

His objective is to offer the public better road transport and traffic management experience. In the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner asked the PWD and NHIDLC to expedite all road projects in the district. He also instructed the departments concerned to complete the Biswanath town bypass project within April this year.

Furthermore, with the objective to reduce road accidents, all departments concerned were directed to take up road safety measures on war-footing. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Muzaffar Hussain, asked the transport department to use speed-guns to waylay over speeding vehicles. Biswanath Chariali Circle Officer Biswajit Sakia too shared plans on installing street lights within the town area. The Deputy Commissioner also directed the transport department to immediately crackdown on two-wheelers using modified silencers and creating noise pollution. Keeping in view the interest of town dwellers of Biswanath Chariali, Sarmah directed the PWD to carry-on all road construction and repair works in the town during night hours as far as possible so as to avoid inconveniences during the day. He further took stock of the four-laning work within the district and directed NHIDCL to expedite it. He also asked NHIDCL to take up beautification work on stretches of the four-lane where work has already been completed. The meeting was also attended by top officials of various departments, including District Transport Officer (DTO), and representatives of motor vehicle associations.
