Biswanath District Congress Committee observed a two-hour sit-in on Monday in protest against petrol and diesel price

BISWANATH CHARIALI: Biswanath District Congress Committee observed a two-hour sit-in on Monday in protest against petrol and diesel price hike, in front of the party office in response to the All India Congress Committee's call.

President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Ripun Borah led the protest. The agitators shouted slogans against the BJP government. State Congress leader Sanju Baruah, Biswanath district president Dilip Kumar Baruah and other leaders were present in the protest. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the President through the Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath.

OUR TINSUKIA CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Along with the rest of the country, the Tinsukia Pradesh Congress Committee observed two-hour sit-in at Thana Chariali, Tinsukia on Monday in protest against hike of petrol and diesel prices and to demand roll back of excess tax and cess on fuel. They also burnt the effigies of the Chief Minister of Assam and Prime Minister of India before submitting a memorandum to the President of India.

The protest was led jointly by MP Pradyut Bordoloi and Jayanta Kalita, president of Tinsukia Pradesh Congress Committee. Durga Bhumij, MLA of Doomdooma, Raju Sahu, former MLA of Chabua, Gautam Dhanwar, secretary of APCC, and other Congress leaders and workers were present.
