BISWANATH CHARIALI: With the objective of fast-tracking implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) projects in Biswanath district, Deputy Commissioner Pranab Kumar Sarmah on Wednesday held a review meeting with contractors of those projects whose progress has been found to be below 60 per cent till date.

Out of 151 projects which are currently under implementation in the district, 84 projects have been identified to be falling under the above mentioned category. The Deputy Commissioner minutely reviewed the progress of each of the 84 projects at his conference hall and held one-to-one discussions with the respective contractors to ascertain the reasons behind the delay. Deadlines were set for each project and instructions were issued by him to the respective contractors to complete the projects within stipulated timeframe. Sarmah further said that action would be taken against contractors who fail to stick to the deadline.

The administrative officers and the officials of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department were instructed to keep a close watch on the projects, particularly those whose progress has not been satisfactory till date. Jal Jeevan Mission is envisioned to provide safe and pure drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
