BISWANATH CHARIALI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced formation of 10 Commando Battalions at different places of the State in order to modernize and strengthen the Assam Police. One of these battalions will be set up at Biswanath's Diring area bordering Assam-Arunachal Pradesh in Biswanath district.
Biswanath MLA Pramod Borthakur informed this to the local scribes on Thursday. He interacted with a delegation of Biswanath District Journalists' Association. To materialize the project, the district administration has allotted about 310 bighas of land for the battalion headquarter at Diring, around 10 km away from the heart of the town.
The MLA informed about the setting up of a government B Ed college at Biswanath Chariali, a Kendriya Vidyalaya at Majuligarh at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore, a model school under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, high schools in three tea gardens and also the construction of Biswanath Medical College. Borthakur informed that the construction of Biswanath Police Reserve will start soon.
Earlier, he was felicitated by the members of the Association. The delegation comprised senior scribes Niranjan Hazarika, Basanta Borah, Ratan Bhuyan, Hiranya Borthakur, Pulak Hazarika, Amir Khan and others.
