GOALPARA: Gayatri Nath, former BJP ward commissioner of Ward No. 16 under Goalpara Municipal Board (GMB), has refuted a graft charge leveled against her by a Bapujinagar-based local girl through a media report published on Saturday.
In a press meet held at the office of the District Journalists' Association on Monday, Nath clarified her stand and declared that her name had been wrongly associated in a supposed scam of Re-SVAYEM government scheme through which selected self-help groups were provided cash benefits prior to the assembly election.
Gayatri Nath termed this as a conspiracy to drag her name in the matter as she was an aspiring candidate for the upcoming municipal elections in the Goalpara town from the same ward. A local family had alleged that Nath received bribe from them in order to select a particular SHG under the Re-SVAYEM scheme. However, the SHG was not selected finally.
