BJP To Contest From 4, UPPL In 1 Constituency In Assam's Bypoll

According to reports the UPPL will file their candidates from Tamulpur constituency. However, discussion for the seat Gossaigaon is on between both the parties.

Guwahati: In the upcoming bypolls which will be held in Assam, the ruling BJP will put up four candidates including in Majuli, Thowra, Moraini and in Bhabanipur constituency.

According to reports the UPPL which is the alliance of ruling BJP will file their candidates from Tamulpur constituency. However, discussion for the seat Gossaigaon is on between both the parties.
The Gossaigaon seat fell vacant after Bodoland People's Front (BPF) MLA Majendra Narzary died due to post-COVID-19 complications in May this year.
Though the official announcement is yet to be made, it is almost confirmed that from Thowra, Sushanta Borgohain; from Mariani, Rupjyoti Kurmi; and from Bhabanipur, Phanidhar Talukdar will be given the BJP nomination.
The Election Commission of India announced that it would hold the Rajya Sabha election in Assam on October 4, 2021, to fill up a single seat vacant from the state. According to the Election Commission, it will issue the poll notification on September 15. The last date for filing nomination papers is September 22, the scrutiny is on September 23, and the date for withdrawal of nominations is September 27.
The voting will start at 9 am and conclude at 4 pm on October 4, 2021. The counting will be from 5 pm on the same day. The Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant from Assam with the resignation of Biswajit Daimary. He is the Speaker of the Assam Assembly now. He came out the winner in the Assam Assembly election on a BJP ticket. According to BJP sources, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's nomination to the seat is final. Currently, he is holding a berth in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet.
